ERP transformation starts with the work, not the configuration
Enterprise platforms connect finance, people, operations, and information. A clearer implementation starts by understanding how those connections should work.

Follow a transaction across the business
Start with a real flow of work: a new hire, a purchase, a customer order, or a financial close. Identify the information required at each step, the people who make decisions, and the handoffs that create delay or uncertainty.
This view helps the team distinguish a platform requirement from a process problem. A configuration decision may be appropriate, but it should follow a clear understanding of the business rule and the responsibility it supports.
Make design choices visible to business owners
Requirements become more useful when they explain the reason behind a request. What decision does a field support? Which control depends on an approval? What happens when information arrives late or is incomplete?
Bring the relevant owners into these conversations early. Document the agreed rule, the exception path, and any trade-off. This gives testing and training a more reliable foundation than a list of screens and features.
Treat data and readiness as business work
Data migration involves definitions, ownership, quality, and reconciliation as well as technical movement. Assign people who can resolve conflicting records and confirm whether the information is fit for its intended use.
Readiness deserves similar attention. Confirm access, support arrangements, process ownership, and the ability of users to complete the work expected of them. Connect these activities to the cutover plan rather than leaving them as a separate checklist near launch.
Plan for the first operating cycle
The first payroll, reporting cycle, close, or service period after release can reveal issues that a demonstration does not. Decide how the team will collect questions, triage problems, and communicate changes during that transition.
A successful handover gives the operating team a workable process, usable information, and a clear route for decisions. The platform is one part of that wider capability.
Use testing to validate a business process
Organize a review around complete business scenarios, including the exceptions that occur in normal work. Connect the expected result with a business owner who can interpret it and the source information needed to confirm it.
Where a scenario fails, identify whether the cause sits in configuration, data, access, the process definition, or the understanding of the person performing it. This distinction helps the team direct the corrective action and repeat the right review before release.
